Hinchingbrooke Cup: Huntingdon Town 1 v St Neots Town 8, report by John Walker.
St Neots recorded their biggest Hinchingbrooke Cup victory in modern times equalling their 8-2 home demolition of Royston Town in 2011.
Lower graded Huntingdon Town never gave up trying and were rewarded with a late consolation goal.
Cameron Mawer’s side now go on to face the winners of the Potton United and Letchworth Garden City at home in the quarter final.
The manager made four changes in the starting line-up giving some valuable match time to several fringe players including Danny Baulk and man-of-the-match birthday boy Scott Joseph both of whom responded with a brace of goals apiece.
The home side made a brave start testing visiting keeper James Hatch twice in the opening 10 minutes but once St Neots found their rhythm with their revised line-up they began to dominate.
The lively Danny Baulk starting for just the second time this season opened the scoring after 14 minutes from a long throw in by Murphy Culkin and three minutes later defender Charlie Bowen added the second from a Culkin corner and it was was 3-0 after 28 minutes when Danny Baulk produced the best of the visitors’ goals with a cracking finish.
Seven minutes before the break the impressive Michal Amaeshike added the fourth goal from a Kieran Barnes free kick and on the stroke of half time Rob Parker scored his first goal of the season with a fifth goal through a packed defence following a corner that was not cleared.
Despite the mounting deficit the home side refused to capitulate, and Ian King tested the underworked Hatch but after 54 minutes Scott Joseph added the sixth goal after a goalkeeping error.
Joseph then added a seventh goal just past the hour and after a series of substitutions by both sides Sam Willis added his goal to complete the visitors’ scoring. Seven minutes from time Huntingdon got the reward of a late consolation goal as they refused to be totally dominated.
