Eynesbury Rovers v Rugby Borough (United Counties League Premier Division South) on September 14, match report by Graham Mills.
Rugby Borough moved to the top of the table following their1-0 victory whilst Rovers dropped to eleventh place.
However, there were positive signs for Eynesbury as they competed well, created chances and were left disappointed that they failed to take any points from the game.
Rugby had the better of the early chances and had several skilful players who liked to run at the Rovers defence.
Antonio Cristofaro, Pearson Mwanyongo, Max Proudlock and Shaun Rudvidzo all had attempts at goal but could not find a way past Reece Lewis.
Eynesbury came into the game and twice within a minute Victor Osobu was presented with opportunities but he had a shot blocked on the edge of the penalty area and another effort from a tight angle hit the side netting.
Nathan Mullings shot over from distance whilst a long range Ryan Lewis strike was punched clear by the keeper but Mullings failed to take advantage of the loose ball. The striker later had a shot held by John Meadows before setting up Osobu, who shot over.
On the stroke of half time Rovers had a penalty appeal turned down when Osobu appeared to be held back in the box with the ball at his feet.
Rugby took the lead three minutes into the second half when Shaun Ruzvidzo cut in from the left, skilfully beating several players before placing his low shot into the far corner of the goal.
Rovers responded well to this set back and had a lot of possession but could not find a way through Rugby’s defence.
A late Eynesbury shot was pushed behind for a corner by Meadows before the final whistle blew.
Next up for Rovers is a trip to the Norfolk coast to play Great Yarmouth Town in the Isuzu FA Vase Second Qualifying Round on Saturday, September 21, kick-off is 3pm.
