Huntingdon Piranhas took part in rounds two and three of the Junior Fenland League (JFL) Gala.

The competition, designed to showcase the talent of younger swimmers, has clubs from the surrounding area, competing in rounds between March and July, with the finals being held in September).

The ages for this league are nine years, 10 years/under, 11 years/under, 12 years/under and 13 years/under.

There are cut=off times associated with each event for respective age groups, with the exception of the relays for nine-year-olds.

If a swimmer has swum faster than the cut-off time for a particular event, they are not permitted to participate in that event again.

This rule also applies to the team freestyle relay. Round 2 of the Gala took place in May at Newmarket and round 3 took place on June 8 at St Ives.

Both events were well attended by participants as well as supporters.

Round two saw teams from Peterborough, Bottisham, St Ives and Huntingdon compete against each other, and round three saw teams from Bottisham, ST Ives, March and Huntingdon go head-to-head to achieve great results.

All swimmers did their best and showcased their talent and commitment while maintaining great respect for the sport and each other.

Positive energy, motivation and, above all, competitive spirit were shown, and fun was had by all, with Huntingdon ending the second round in third place and also placing third in the third round.

Amazing results seeing how fierce the competition was and many congratulations to the winners!

In round 2, Huntingdon placed first nine times (with the first three races in a row won).

They achieved second position 14 times! Round three saw the Piranhas achieve gold six times and silver 12 times.

Both events finished with spectacular 8x50m squadron relays and Huntingdon did not disappoint, placing second in round two and third in round three.

New personal bests were achieved by the team and the coaches could not be prouder! The Piranhas are now ready and excited for round four on July 6.
