At St Neots RFC there is a record number of individuals called up to represent either Huntingdon and Peterborough District or the East Midlands, at county level.
After another strong showing at the league, the senior men had three call ups to the East Midlands squad, 1st XV captain Aiden Jordan, Rory Dingemans, who has also represented the Navy 1st team this season.
Bradley McKenna finished the season as the top try scorer in the whole of England, with 49 tries.
In addition, Bradley Young and Isaac Silverthorne have been selected for their representative county under 20 sides.
To have three players in that East Midlands squad is a personal achievement for the club, and we look forward to competing for those shirts more regularly as we set our aims even higher for next season.
Charlie Stafford sees this is a core part of the overall success of the squad this season.
He said: "We’ve been able to offer a high level of rugby to over 40 senior players most weekends this season, which pushes everyone in training.
"The commitment level from the lads has been phenomenal this season considering the difficult conditions, which is helping us to build into next season’s campaign”.
Despite a more difficult league season for the ladies, they too will contribute three players to the County side, with captain Niamh Grant, Beth Robinson, Harriet Styman, Chloe Flynn-Brown, Chloe Bawden and Natasha Sice gaining selection.
For Niamh Grant, it’s a reward for the battle shown, adding: “This season has been tricky to navigate with many league matches either postponed or cancelled, so we’ve had limited opportunities to gel as a team.
"Despite that, providing six players into the county squad shows that we have the ability to mix it with the best next season”.
Sion James, St Neots Ladies coach also continues his role as East Midlands Back coach for a second season, working alongside a team of coaches.
