On Sunday, Ives seven Colts joined forces with Ely to play in the final of the Eastern Counties Cup.
An exhilarating match saw the game see-saw between the sides. With four minutes to play, ElyIves had stretched their lead to 31-17. But West were not done and scored two converted tries in three minutes to even the scores.
From the kick off, West conceded a penalty on the 10-metre line, which the Ely stand off coolly converted for a dramatic victory.
The Ives coach said after the game he was delighted for the players.
“So proud of all our lads. It’s been a long tough season. But they have all worked hard, never complained and just wanted to play rugby. They all fully deserved to end the season on a high. Well done.”

With Cantabs visiting for the Cambs Junior Cup semi-final, it promised to be a nerve-jangling afternoon.
However, Ives 2nds came out full of intent and dominated both territory and possession, only giving up an interception score, as they ran in four of their own to turn around 26-7 points to the good.
The dominance continued in the second half, with the concession of penalties preventing a bigger scoreline, but the 50-7 final score secured a place in the final against March Bears.
Paul Humphreys said: “I knew we had a team to compete and that Cantabs would come to play and challenge us. Make no bones about it, the players were left in no doubt of the expectancy in the pre-match chat!
“The boys responded well. We came out of the blocks well, but at times were a little too eager and got ahead of ourselves.
"Once we settled and controlled the ball we played nicely, with good shape. Our defence stood strong, scrambling well when needed. Some inaccuracy on another day would have cost us!
All are welcome to support the Bulls. The match takes place at Cambridge Rugby Club, kick off at midday.
Final Score: St Ives II 50, Cantabrigian II 7
