Football: Eynesbury Rovers 1 - Daventry Town 1 (UCL Premier Division South) Report by Graham Mills.
Eynesbury Rovers picked up a vital point against ninth-placed Daventry Town in their quest to avoid relegation.
However, they came so close to getting the three points that would have made safety certain, but despite creating several chances in the second half they could not find a winning goal.
Eynesbury took a 27th minute lead from the penalty spot after Marcel Rzeszutek was tripped by Harvey Rhoades, who was cautioned for his actions.
Declan Rogers stepped up to fire Eynesbury ahead. However, the lead only lasted for seven minutes when Ryan Bell scored from close range to equalise for Daventry.
Rovers had two good opportunities just before the break but livewire Dylan Surace had his first shot saved by Tom Carter and seconds later he fired wide.
In the second half, after two goal attempts from the visitors, Eynesbury went on to dominate the game but found Tom Carter unbeatable.
Firstly, Rzeszutek saw his shot pushed away by the shot-stopper and later an Adrian O’Hara header from a Rogers’ corner was held by Carter.
Fraelias Mienambolo twice had shots saved whilst at the other end Levon Stewart could have put the visitors ahead but his shot was saved by the feet of Reece Lewis.
However, that was the only goal threat from Daventry as Rovers pushed forward searching a winner.
Full-back Ben Hickling even got in on the act but his two efforts were off target whilst a Rzeszutek drive stung the hands of the keeper.
Owen Dixon tried his luck with a shot from the edge of the penalty area but Carter was equal to it and towards the end of the match Declan Rogers had two opportunities but shot low and wide with one effort and saw a close range shot turned behind for a corner by Carter.
The point gained means that if Desborough Town fail to beat Racing Club Warwick at home on Tuesday evening Eynesbury Rovers are safe from relegation.
Next up for Rovers is the long trip to play Easington Sports on Wednesday, April 10 and kick-off is at 7.45pm.
