St Neots Men’s 1s claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Cambridge City 3s to keep their hopes of a top three finish alive.
Saints took control of the game from the start and it didn’t take them long to take the lead when Phil McMorris fired in a short corner after six minutes.
City started to get into the game and produced some chances of their own, but Saints always seemed comfortable at the back.
In the second half, Saints couldn’t find the control they had early on and only created chances on the counter attack.
City pushed for an equaliser but thanks to Saints keeper Ben Seaber’s player of the match performance they couldn’t find one.
The Men’s 2s promotion prospects were helped by their 6-2 win at home to March Town 2s and other results going their way.
James Findlay opened the scoring for Saints who dominated from the start.
Chris Mailes doubled the lead, before Findlay scored his second just after the midway point in the first half.
Two goals from March either side of the break created a bit of tension in the tie, but Saints took control again as Findlay completed his hattrick.
A second from Mailes and one from Will Zwetsloot wrapped up the win for Saints and moved them into second place.
This was also helped by the 3s 2-2 draw away to Cambridge University 4s.
The hosts opened the scoring and looked to keep their position as second in the league but were pegged back when Paul Lawman scored for Saints.
Uni gambled by taking off their keeper in search for the win and despite taking the lead, they continued with 11 outfield players.
This backfired for them as Nick Hargrave was able to sweep home into the empty goal and get a second equaliser for Saints.
The Men’s 4s had an early start away in Newmarket and ended up losing 1-0.
St Neots Women’s 1s lost by one goal for the second week running as they were beaten 2-1 away to promotion rivals Cambridge South 2s.
The Women’s 2s were on the end of another heavy defeat, losing 7-0 at home to St Ives 1s, while the 3s lost 3-0 to Spalding 3s in their own relegation battle.
The Women’s 4s produced a fantastic 5-1 win at home to Newmarket 3s.
