St Ives Swimming Club are celebrating the fantastic achievements of some of its star swimmers after William Roberts earned himself a Team GB call-up and Pete Brystow raced to medal success.
William has headed to Vichy, France, on June 4 for the Virtus Global Games as a part of the Down syndrome swimming squad for Team GB where more than 1,200 athletes from 80 countries in 14 sports are competing.
The Virtus Games is the world's largest elite sports event for athletes with an intellectual impairment, and William earnt his place as a swimmer of the highest calibre.
The head coach at SISC, Andy Hunter, said: "At Vichy, he [William] is only one of nine Down Syndrome Swimmers selected by Team GB to compete and it only occurs once every four years, so it's a truly iconic honour for him and SISC.
"William trains inclusively alongside all his peers at SISC with determination and focus, and it is a great privilege to see his potential realised to the maximum by the plethora of this year's selections for international competition."
"We, the coaches, committee, teachers, helpers, swimmers, volunteers, parents and all concerned with SISC, are immensely proud of William and his achievements, not only representing the club but also the region and his country."
