A cyclist from Aberaeron in Ceredigion has been selected in the Team GB squad for the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

So far 23 cyclists have been named in the Team GB squad, with further additions to be announced on July 4.

From the 23 already selected, five hail from Wales.

Welsh Cycling’s Director of Talent and Performance Development, Darren Tudor, said: "We've been eagerly anticipating the announcement of the Team GB squad, as our athletes have all worked incredibly hard in recent competitions.

"Each of these athletes has demonstrated exceptional talent and perseverance, making them true ambassadors of Welsh cycling.

"We are incredibly proud of their achievements and wish them all the best as they prepare for the Paris 2024 Olympics."

There are five cyclists from Wales who have been named in the Team GB squad for the upcoming Olympics in Paris:

Women's Sprint

  • Emma Finucane
  • Lowri Thomas (reserve)

Men's Road

  • Josh Tarling
  • Stevie Williams

Women's Mountain Bike (MTB)

  • Ella Maclean-Howell

Meet Josh - the cyclist from Aberaeron off to the 2024 Paris Olympics

Josh Tarling has been selected in the men's road cycling team for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games and will take part in both the road race and individual time trial events.

The 19-year-old is originally from Aberaeron with his first cycling club being West Wales CRT (based in Ceredigion).

He competed in his first Commonwealth Games for Wales back in 2022 in Birmingham and joined British professional cycling team INEOS Grenadiers in 2023.

Josh is in some fantastic form coming into the Olympics having won the individual time trial at the British National Championship earlier this month, while also coming seventh overall in the road race.

He also finished 46th in the general classification at the Critérium du Dauphiné (also held in June).

List of achievements

Some of Josh's achievements, according to Pro Cycling Stats, include: 

  • 1st: 2024 British National Championships - individual time trial
  • 3rd: 2023 UCI Road World Championship - individual time trial (ahead of the likes of Geraint Thomas and Tadej Pogacar) 
  • 1st: 2023 European Continental Championships - individual time trial
  • 1st: 2023 British National Championships - individual time trial
