The driver of this “Highway Maintenance” van didn’t have the best of starts to the weekend after crashing into the St Ives car trap.  

The traffic measure is designed to prevent motorists from entering the guided busway at the junction of Harrison Way and Station Road.  

There are multiple warning signs and “GUIDED BUS ONLY” markings on the road leading up to the trap. 

But some motorists still end up driving into the hole, which can cause serious damage to their vehicle.  

It also disrupts Guided Busway services as diversions then have to be put in place until the vehicle is removed.  

Peter Snellgrove passed the incident shortly after it happened on Friday (November 15).  

He said: "It's clear vehicles shouldn't be heading towards the trap, the road signs are as clear as they can be." 

The van’s owner is not known.  

Last year, there were renewed calls to revisit the issue as residents in St Ives felt more vehicles than ever were driving into it.  

Further warning signage was subsequently added to the area.
