A project will be spreading Christmas cheer to young care leavers in Peterborough.

The Peterborough Christmas Dinner Project is inviting young adults, aged between 18 and 25, to join their festive celebration.

These individuals are transitioning from the care system, be it from foster care or residential homes, and will be living independently this Christmas.

The initiative extends its warm invitation to those in the Cambridgeshire area, including Peterborough, Huntingdon, and Cambridge.

Now in its fourth year, the Peterborough group provides a traditional Christmas dinner prepared by a volunteer professional chef, who takes into account all dietary requirements.

In addition to the festive feast, those in attendance will receive personalised gifts, stocking fillers, and food hampers.

Transport on the day is also taken care of.

A spokesperson for The Christmas Dinner Peterborough said: "Planning for this year’s event is now well underway and we anticipate welcoming 40 guests to this year's dinner at the George Alcock Centre in Stanground.

"‘We’re fortunate that we have a great team of local volunteers and the generosity of the local businesses that support us.

"We look forward to welcoming this year’s care leavers for dinner."

This volunteer-driven initiative is part of The Gold From The Stone Foundation, founded by poet Lemn Sissay OBE.

The project has hosted more than 130 dinners in 35 UK locations since its inception in 2013 and continues to grow.

Businesses across the region willing to get involved are encouraged to offer their support.

The group expresses gratitude towards the local community for their assistance.
