New pictures show how work is coming along to improve parts of the A428 as part of a £1billion scheme.

The Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet works aim to improve journeys between Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge by reducing congestion on the existing road.

The scheme will deliver a new 10-mile dual carriageway linking the A1 and A421 Black Cat roundabout in Bedfordshire with the A428 Caxton Gibbet roundabout in Cambridgeshire.

The works have prompted road closures across Huntingdonshire in recent months, with the A421 set to shut in both directions for two weekends in November.

The carriageway between Renhold and the Black Cat roundabout will close while National Highways install six large steel beams for the new Roxton Road Bridge.

It marks a major milestone for the A428 improvements, which are set to be completed by 2027.

The A1198 was closed once again between October 21-26 while engineers carried out essential utility diversions and installed a temporary safety barrier.

Around 25,300 vehicles travel between Cambridge Road and Caxton Gibbet every day, with this number likely to grow to 32,900 vehicles by 2040.

As part of the new carriageway, a "three-tier" junction at Black Cat roundabout and additional junctions at Caxton Gibbet and Cambridge Road aim to improve the flow of traffic.

National Highways have also proposed a Roxton road link to connect Wyboston and Chawston in addition to new bridges over the dual carriageway at Roxton Road, Barford Road and Toseland Road.
