A bridge in Huntingdonshire, which was extensively damaged during recent flooding, is set to reopen this weekend.
Little Paxton Bridge in Mill Lane, St Neots, was completely submerged after the River Great Ouse flooded in September which left parts of the road surface ripped away and the old cobbled road underneath left exposed.
Following this, the bridge was closed while investigation work was carried out. Now that investigations are complete, repair work is set to commence on Thursday, October 24 with the aim to have the bridge reopen by the weekend.
The cobbles on the bridge will be removed and a new road surface will be laid on the existing concrete beneath it to ensure that the repair lasts longer.
A new kerb will also be built to further increase flood resilience.
Councillor Alex Beckett, Chair of the Highways and Transport Committee at Cambridgeshire County Council said that the recent flooding had been "frustrating" as it had caused damage more serious than in previous years.
The MP for St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire, Ian Sollom, said: "Hopefully, today brings good news, as we now know that there is a solid basis for repair works which have now started.
"Weather permitting, these repairs should be completed by the end of this week!"
Mr Sollom said that he will "continue to press for regular updates" about the works to keep his constituents informed.
