Six patients are treated daily by the East Anglian Ambulance (EAAA) thanks to the support of the public and donations.

The charity's life-saving service is called to a wide range of medical emergencies across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire Norfolk and Suffolk.

Each mission costs on average £3,750 and is funded almost entirely by the generosity of local communities.

EAAA, which receives no regular government funding, made the announcement as part of Air Ambulance Week, which takes off across the UK from today until 15 September.

The charity will join other air ambulance charities around the United Kingdom to deliver the message: “Today’s Supporter, Tomorrow’s Life-saver", serving as a reminder that supporting the EAAA today can help save lives tomorrow.

Throughout Air Ambulance Week, stories of those whose lives have been impacted by critical care medics will be shared.

One of those treated by EAAA is 38-year-old Jonathan Moran, who suffered a life-threatening medical emergency in the middle of the night while at home alone in September 2022.

Jonathan had suffered a haemorrhage on both sides of his brain and three aneurysms.

The advanced critical care interventions the EAAA crew provided at scene included giving him an emergency anaesthetic, intubating and ventilating him, giving Jonathan the best possible chance of survival.

After spending nine weeks in a coma and undergoing neurological surgery, Jonathan recovered and is now lending his support to the charity during Air Ambulance Week 2024.

He said: “The help from everyone, including East Anglian Air Ambulance, has meant so much to me and my friends and family.

“I never thought something like this would happen to me and that’s why I’m supporting East Anglian Air Ambulance and Air Ambulance Week 2024.

"I encourage others to get behind the charity as you never know when you, or somebody you love, might need their help. By supporting EAAA today, you really could become somebody’s life-saver tomorrow.”

Matthew Jones, CEO of East Anglian Air Ambulance, added: “Air Ambulance Week is an opportunity to acknowledge the life-saving achievements of East Anglian Air Ambulance supporters.

"Simply put, we couldn’t respond to medical emergencies and provide advanced treatment and care without the remarkable kindness of people in our communities.”

Matthew continued said: “EAAA now treats, on average, six people every day and we recognise and give our heartfelt thanks to our supporters for their ongoing impact right across our region. Together, we really do save lives.”

The charity is calling on people all over Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk for support during Air Ambulance Week 2024 to ensure it can continue to save the lives of people like Jonathan.
