Drivers are set to be hit with 14 weeks worth of roadworks on the A14 starting from mid-September.

The roadworks are due to take place between Junction 13 at Thrapston and Junction 22 at Brampton, and various measures will be implemented including restricted speed limits, no overtaking, lane closures and full closures.

The roadworks, organised by National Highways, are for drainage improvement, carriageway reconstruction and resurfacing, renewal of road markings and studs and safety barrier replacements.

The work is set to begin on Monday, September 16 and last for 14 weeks. Some full weekend closures, lasting from 8pm on a Friday until 6am on a Monday, will start from September 20.

Measures affecting motorists will include:

  • Full carriageway closures
  • Lane closures
  • Gap closures
  • Slip road closures
  • Temporary mandatory speed limits

The effect of the order is: "To impose, for 24 hours daily, in conjunction with narrow lanes, a speed limit of 40 miles per hour or 50 miles per hour, with no overtaking, on the eastbound and westbound carriageways from Bythorn accommodation overbridge to Belton's Hill Overbridge, Spaldwick.

"To close, alternately, the A14 eastbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 13 Thrapston Interchange to the entry slip road at Junction 22, Brampton Interchange to the entry slip road at Junction 13 Thrapston Interchange, including all entry and exit slip roads."

Several diversion routes will also be put in place during the roadworks. They are as follows:

"During main carriageway closures traffic travelling eastbound will be diverted off of the A14 at Junction 13 then via the A605 to join the A1(M) southbound at Junction 17 continuing on to the A1 to re-join the A14 at Brampton Hut Interchange.

"Non-motorway traffic will follow this diversion route but at A1(M) Junction 17 will continue onto the A1139 Fletton Parkway, then A1260, A15 and B1043 to join the A1 southbound at Alconbury and on to re-join the A14 at Brampton Hut Interchange; vice versa for westbound traffic."

"During slip road closures at Junction 16 Catworth local traffic wishing to enter the A14 will be diverted via the B660 and B662 to join the diversion route above. Traffic wishing to exit will continue to the next open junction to exit, then return via the opposite carriageway back to Junction 16."

Diversions, closures, and temporary mandatory speed limits will all be clearly indicated by sign posts.
