A single mother-of-two from St Neots is celebrating becoming a finalist in the National Building and Construction Awards.
Katie Davies-Binney founded Binney and Sims Design Ltd 10 years ago and has worked on designing, planning and development ever since.
Her company has tackled new builds, stately homes, commercial developments and much more. Now, she is up for an award that recognises her efforts in a male-dominated industry.
Katie's business is a finalist in the Women in Construction category at the National Building and Construction Awards 2024.
She said she has "worked tirelessly" to become the successful business woman that she is today.
Katie left school without any GCSEs, but she always loved visiting sites that her dad was working on. Katie's father worked in construction and along with her brother, worked on the long barrow in All Cannings.
She struggled throughout school with finding her passion but eventually went to college to study 3D design and fell in love with it. After college, Katie rose quickly in the design world and landed a job as head designer.
Just before having her second child, Katie decided to start up her own firm - Binney and Sims. It was originally based in Wyboston, but when Covid-19 hit, Katie built an office to work from.
Katie has overcome many hurdles in her career, including her business partner departing the business. They managed the engineering side, so Katie has now taken this role on herself.
Katie said: "Now I'm a single mother of two wonderful children, I'm running a home and a demanding business, and I'm also building a second business.
"I don't stop, but it's all forever rewarding. I have poured everything into my businesses and I'm determined to continue growing and achieving success."
The awards will take place on October 24 at the Leonardo Royal Hotel at Tower Bridge, London.
