The Metropolitan Police are heading up an investigation after human remains were found near a Huntingdonshire town last week (August 13).
The police force is treating the death as unexpected.
An eye-witness told The Hunts Post there had been a significant police presence with a number of forensics teams deployed to Easton Road near Kimbolton.
A Met Police spokesperson said: "Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are investigating after human remains were found at a rural location in Cambridgeshire on Tuesday August 13.
"Officers are working to confirm the person's identity and inform next-of-kin.
"The death is being treated as unexpected and is under investigation.
"Enquiries indicate that the deceased may be the subject of an Met Police missing person investigation. However, identity has not yet been confirmed."
