A couple from Sawtry have thanked the ambulance crew that helped deliver their baby girl in their kitchen.

Baby Luca was born at home on January 20 with the help of medics from the East of England Ambulance Service.

And recently, her parents Christian and Jessica Roberts took her along to a reunion with the crew at Huntingdon Ambulance Station.

Christian explained Jessica had gone into hospital earlier that day as she had been experiencing some discomfort.

They were sent home because she didn’t meet the criteria for being kept in – but labour started to progress quickly and her waters broke at 7:30pm.

He said: “I got Jessica downstairs, but it became evident that she was not going to be able to get in the car.

“I called an ambulance, and they arrived in about eight minutes. By that time Jessica was on the floor in the kitchen and the baby’s head was showing.

“The crew arrived and they really looked after us, taking control of the situation and keeping us both calm.

“Within four minutes of the crew arriving, they had delivered the baby.”

Jessica began to bleed heavily as she was being taken into the ambulance and the crew stayed and worked with her until she was in the care of doctors and midwives.

The family are now doing well and Luca, their second baby, is over six months old.

The team of medics that helped the family included paramedics Leajo Phillipson, Stuart and Sarah-Jayne Parsons.

There was also Apprentice Paramedic Beth Walesby and Emergency Care Assistants Amy Rengert and Chris Dundee.

Jessica added: “They did a great job, all the team were amazing and we are incredibly grateful for the hard work they all did, as the situation could of been very different.”

Paramedic Sarah-Jayne Parsons said: “It was really great to see the three of them again and to see Mum and Luca doing so well.”
