A free 12-week health and fitness programme across Huntingdonshire is boosting people's wellness, with delighted participants reporting impressive health improvements.
Active for Health, aimed at encouraging people to incorporate exercise into their weekly routine, comprises group activities such as fitness classes, walking sports, and team games organised either at leisure centres or public open spaces.
For the willing converts, there's the added advantage of learning new skills, socialising, and ultimately improving their overall wellbeing.
Initiative coordinators work directly with participants to select activities that appeal to everyone.
The 12-week course also invites each participant to a complimentary 90-day offer to use One Leisure's facilities, subject to eligibility.
The programme’s fresh cohorts kick off mid-July.
One Leisure St Ives will commence on July 15, every Monday from 5pm to 5.55pm; One Leisure Huntingdon on July 17, every Wednesday at the same time; One Leisure St Neots on July 18, every Thursday, also from 5 to 5.55pm.
An outdoor course at One Leisure St Ives will open on July 16, each Tuesday from 5pm to 5.55pm.
Additionally, Hinchingbrooke Park will host the programme every Monday from 6pm to 7pm, starting July 15, while Riverside Park St Neots will do the same on Wednesdays.
Eligibility criteria require participants to be adults (18 years and over) with a BMI of 25 or over, or 23.5 for the BME community, and undertake less than 30 minutes of exercise per week.
Residency of Huntingdonshire district is a prerequisite.
Sharing their experience, a former participant commended the programme, saying, ‘"At the end of the 12 weeks we all had lower blood pressure, had lost some weight and got faster at the shuttle run fitness test.
"To say we were delighted was an understatement, particularly as we had all enjoyed the social side of meeting up each week, becoming good friends."
If you are a Huntingdonshire resident and meet the eligibility criteria, signing up could kickstart your journey to healthy living.
