There are still questions over the long-awaited Splash Park for St Neots despite the town council agreeing to grant the project more than half a million pounds.

The St Neots Splash Park, which has been in the works for years, has taken a step closer to reality after a St Neots Town Council meeting last night (June 25).

After two hours of high stakes discussion, the council agreed to provisionally grant £650k towards the project.

This is a major step forwards for the St Neots Splash Park after years of setbacks, including several financial and legal woes.

The committee has sought out a grant for the project since 2019, but it seems now, five years later, they've made progress and finally got it.

In a post on Facebook, Councillor Stephen Ferguson said: "High drama tonight, when after two hours of meeting the Town Council agreed to provisionally grant £650k to the splashpark subject to some further legal agreement.

"It’s not done yet but it’s a step forward. An excellent and impassioned speech by Kurt Schunmann at the start of the meeting certainly helped, and some brilliant work from Cllr Catherine Goodman who rescued the project from what looked like a certain deferral with a clever motion. Well done to everyone.!

In May 2024, Chairman of the St Neots Aquatic and Leisure CIO, Mick Marks, told The Hunts Post: "Assuming the councillors agree the grant (£650k) in the full council meeting in June, we will be able to contract the project tender winners, to start building in 2025 and to open the facility for spring/summer in 2025."

All being well, St Neots may finally have its splash park this time next year.
