An 11-year-old is set to take on the mammoth challenge of running 24 miles in the space of 24 hours.

Iris Purser, a Year 6 pupil at Buckden Primary School, set herself the challenge to help raise awareness and support children that have been diagnosed with cancer.

The 11-year-old is set to run one mile every hour over the space of one day. She'll begin at 2pm on Thursday, June 27 and will finish at 2pm on Friday, June 28. Iris will be running while she's at school and throughout the night.

Iris said: "At school we are encouraged to make a difference and help people if we can. I enjoy running and wanted to do something which would challenge myself but also help others, so I decided to set myself the challenge of running 24 miles in 24 hours, 1 mile every hour.

"I know I can run that distance but getting up in the night to do it and keeping it going when I am at school is going to be hard! I want to inspire other children at my school to use their interests to help other people too"

Iris has chosen to raise awareness for the Children with Cancer UK charity, who use donations to help research and development treatments for children. 

They also help and support families while their child is having treatment.
