A 60-year-old man died in a fire at his home in Wisbech, an inquest opening has revealed.
The emergency services were called to the incident at a ground floor flat in Churchill Road on the afternoon of March 21 this year.
Iain Ross was found inside the building but sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said at the time fire investigation officers and the police believe the fire was started accidentally by smoking materials.
Caroline Jones, an area coroner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, has now opened an inquest into Mr Ross’ death.
At the brief hearing, she gave a provisional cause of death as thermal burns, inhalation on injury and carbon monoxide poisoning due to a house fire.
“I extend my condolences to the family of Mr Ross,” she said.
The inquest opening was held at Lawrence Court, in Huntingdon, on June 13.
The matter has now been listed before coroner Elizabeth Gray and another hearing has been scheduled for July 12, 2024.
