An 18-year-old will serve one year in a Young Offenders Institution after he was caught dealing drugs to two known drug users in Huntingdon.

Irmantas Gespautas was first spotted by officers from the Huntingdon Neighbourhood Policing Team who were on patrol in Oxmoor on April 9. The officers were in the area in response to concerns about drug dealing in the area.

They saw Gespautas, 18, engaging with two known drug users and, believing that a deal may have taken place, they approached the teenager.

When he saw the police officers, he ran away from them. The force then searched the area and found him in The Whaddons, where they detained him for a stop-search.

When he was asked if he had any drugs on him, he replied, "yes I have drugs, I found them and I wanted to sell them".

Officers found nine wraps of crack cocaine and heroin, which resulted in his arrest for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, which he was later charged with.

Gespautas, of no fixed address, appeared at Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday, June 5, where he was sentenced to one year in a Young Offenders Institution (YOI) after previously admitting the offence.

PC James Sims, from the Huntingdon NPT, said: "Tackling drug dealing continues to be a priority across the force because of the associated violence, theft and misery it brings to our communities.

"We are working hard to disrupt drug dealing in Huntingdonshire but information from the public can greatly assist with this."
