Plans have been submitted to Huntingdonshire District Council which could see electric vehicle (EV) chargers installed at a petrol station.

The application is for the Morrisons Petrol Station in St Ives, on Needingworth Road.

The proposal includes the creation of a charging zone, the installation of EV chargers, the erection of a canopy, a sub-station enclosure, an LV panel, a meter cabinet, and associated works.

While the plans are good news for electric vehicle drivers, Needingworth Parish Council has formally objected to the application. 

As part of the application process, the Parish Council was asked to provide a consultee comment on the plans and whether they approve or object to them.

A spokesperson for Needingworth Parish Council said in the comment: "The council could not find policies in the Local Plan relating to EV charging points, however, members considered that there are health and safety issues with electric charging of vehicles at a petrol station.

"The council also considered that the area is already well served with charging points at Morrisons Supermarket, the Costa Coffee off of Harding Way, the Park & Ride at Meadow Lane, and the Aldi - and these are never all in use."

The application form states that the plans would result in the loss of two parking spaces at the petrol station, bringing the number down from 12 to 10.

Architectural impressions submitted with the planning application indicate that if the plans are approved, there will be four EV charging points installed which will sit under a canopy.

New parking bays and a kerb would also be installed under the proposals.
