A service was held at the War Memorial in St Neots today to mark the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings in 1944.

The event was attended by St Neots mayor, Cllr Richard Slade, members of the Royal British Legion and some service veterans. The Rev Paul Hutchinson, also paid tribute and led prayers.

Keith Ridley, Royal Navy veteran and President of the St Neots and District Royal British Legion, paid tribute to those who took part in the Landings and those "who never returned from Normandy".

"It is difficult to comprehend what these men went through," he told the assembled crowd.

The Rev Paul Hutchinson added: "Many are no longer with us and many never talked about their experiences but we give thanks for their sacrifices. We cannot imagine the cost."
