Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced on May 22 that a General Election will be held on July 4.
To launch The Hunts Post's coverage of the General Election, we'll be speaking to candidates in the constituencies of Huntingdon, North West Cambridgeshire, and the new constituency, St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire.
Standing as a Labour Party candidate in North West Cambridgeshire is Cllr Sam Carling.
Cllr Carling is a biomedical scientist who serves on Cambridge City Council, where he's best known for campaigning to end pollution in the River Cam.
When asked what his priorities are for North West Cambs, Cllr Carling said: "Whether living in the most rural parts of the constituency, or in our towns, or in the southern half of Peterborough - people of all ages across North West Cambridgeshire are witnessing a continual decline in public services.
"GP appointments are impossible to access, local bus services continue to be cut, and there is a desperate lack of affordable housing across our area – from Ramsey to Wittering and everywhere in between.
"And residents simply do not feel safe anymore, with our police services having been decimated and an average of ten violent crimes recorded every single day in North West Cambridgeshire."
He added: "Only a Labour government can deliver the change that North West Cambridgeshire needs. I will stand up for our communities, and I am delighted to advocate for a Labour government to restore hope and opportunity across our area."
Cllr Carling has also worked closely with the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority throughout his career, "improving adult education and skills provision across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, as well as for improving transport links in rural communities."
