Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced on May 22 that a General Election will be held on July 4.
To launch The Hunts Post's coverage of the General Election, we'll be speaking to candidates in the constituencies of Huntingdon, North West Cambridgeshire, and the new constituency, St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire.
Standing as a Green Party candidate in Huntingdon is Cllr Georgie Hunt.
Cllr Hunt has lived in Huntingdonshire for almost all of her life, and currently serves as a Huntingdon Town Councillor, representing Huntingdon West.
When asked what her priorities are for the Huntingdon constituency, she said: "My main priority is to help support people through this cost of living crisis - the Government has failed to support residents through this crisis, and the ordinary public are paying the price.
"We’re also seeing the first signs of the climate crisis on our doorstep, with record flooding over the past few years turning lives upside down. Our area’s biodiversity is also collapsing - with huge parts of our wildlife at risk of being lost forever.
"Alongside so many people, I’m frustrated by the lack of reliable public transport and active travel infrastructure in our towns and villages.
"We live in an area which relies on residents owning a car to access basic services like shops and GPs. If elected, I’ll work to ensure that everyone, especially people in rural areas, has access to reliable public transport and proper walking and cycling routes.
"Huntingdon is also an expensive place to rent or buy a home, with people of all ages priced out of our area.
"I’m campaigning to make the rental market fairer, including calling for an end to no-fault evictions, and more support to get local people onto the housing ladder - by boosting housing stock through a mix of refurbishment, conversions, and suitable new builds."
