Key voting deadlines ahead of the July 4 General Election

Following the news of a General Election on July 4, the key voting deadlines have been confirmed.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has called for a General Election just six weeks from now.

In the next six weeks, anyone eligible to vote will need to make sure they've registered and applied for the correct method of voting.

Here are the key voting deadlines to make note of ahead of the General Election.

If you need to register to vote, you need to do it by 11:59pm on Tuesday, June 18.

To register, you can click here to be taken to the Gov UK website.

It is now law that in order to be able to vote at a polling station, you must bring a form of Voter ID with you.

This could be your driving licence or your passport.

The full list of acceptable forms of Voter ID can be found by clicking here. However, if you have none of those, you will need to apply for Voter ID.

You need to do this by Wednesday, June 26 at 5pm. It's free to do, and you can do it by clicking here.

If you are abroad on July 4 or will be away from your constituency, you can still vote.

You will need to apply for a postal vote, which can be done here.

To make your vote count, you need to apply by Wednesday, June 19 at 5pm.

If you're unable to get to the polling station on July 4, you can apply for a proxy vote. This means that someone else can go on your behalf.

You will both need to be registered to vote.

If you need to apply for a proxy vote, make sure you do it by 5pm on Wednesday, June 26.
