Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced yesterday (May 22) that a General Election will be held on July 4.
To launch The Hunts Post's coverage of the General Election, we'll be speaking to candidates in the constituencies of Huntingdon, North West Cambridgeshire, and the new constituency, St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire.
Standing as a candidate for the Liberal Democrat Party in the new St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire constituency is Ian Sollom.
In the 2019 General Election, Mr Sollom stood as a Lib Dem candidate in South Cambridgeshire.
Asked about his priorities for St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire, Mr Sollom said that he will be "campaigning for action to save our NHS, tackle the cost of living crisis, and making our streets safer."
He said: "I and my family have made St Neots my home, and we love it here. But we have experienced first hand how hard it is to even get an appointment at the GP.
"My priority is to fight for better NHS GP and dental services across my constituency."
In response to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's decision to call a General Election, Mr Sollom said: "This election is our chance to bring change to St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire and get an MP who can stand up for our area.
"The Conservatives of Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss have let us all down. With a great track record in recent local and national elections, the Lib Dems are best placed to get the Conservatives out in St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire.
"It will be very close here, so every vote will count."
