A pregnant woman is understood to have had Covid-19 and died of heart failure in hospital, a coroner has said.
Isabel Thomas, 34, died at Peterborough City Hospital on March 28 of last year when she was 23 weeks pregnant.
Her foetus also died.
Caroline Jones, the area coroner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, has now opened an inquest into the death.
She said: “Circumstances broadly are that [Isabel Thomas] was 23 weeks pregnant, presented as critically ill and went into cardiac arrest.
“Very sadly her foetus died and a caesarean section was undertaken but it was not thought possible to resuscitate Isabel
“There was no other significant known past medical history.
“At the time of her death it was not clear whether a complication of the pregnancy led to her death or if the primary problem related to Isabel herself.”

The inquest opening was held at Lawrence Court, in Huntingdon, on May 2, 2024.
At the brief hearing, the provisional cause of death was given as heart failure due to heart inflammation and associated with the covid-19 infection.
Ms Jones adjourned the inquest for a future date to be fixed.
