A cyclist died in hospital just over a week after a collision with a tipper truck on the A1123, an inquest opening has heard.
Elizabeth Hind, 63, was travelling on her push bike from St Ives towards the direction of Huntingdon on the evening of February 28.
Caroline Jones, an area coroner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, explained she was on the road’s single carriageway at the time where the speed limit is 40 mph.
She said: “Though the road is street lit at junctions, on this spot it was completely dark and a Scania Tipper was travelling downhill and collided with [the cyclist] on her bike.”
The lorry stopped and Ms Hind was found injured nearby.
Ms Jones explained: “She was treated at the scene and transferred by helicopter to Addenbrooke’s Hospital [in Cambridge] where she underwent various surgeries for a number of fractures and injuries.
“And despite all best efforts, [she] died on March 8, 2024 where her death was confirmed by Dr Mark Jeffrey at 2433 hrs.”

The inquest was opened on April 23 at a brief hearing held at Lawrence Court, in Huntingdon.
Severe traumatic brain injury and brain damage, cardiac arrest and road traffic collision were listed as Ms Hind’s provisional cause of death.
She had also experienced various significant injuries including multiple fractures and injuries to major internal organs.
A toxicological analysis showed she was not intoxicated at the time, the coroner said.
Ms Jones added: “Enquires into this death remain ongoing therefore I adjourn this case for a date to be fixed in the future for the inquest.”
