A man who rammed a police car as he tried to make his escape, has been jailed.

Zeeshan Ellam, aged 26-year, was already wanted by another police force when he was spotted by officers in St Ives. 

Ellam was seen by Cambridgeshire Police officers driving a silver Peugeot 308 on Constable Road, in St Ives, around 11am on Friday, September 15, 2023.

He then made a left into Rubens Way and reversed into a parking space, but officers pulled in front of the Peugeot and activated their blue lights.

Ellam then rammed into the police car and drove through a car park, a small fence, and over a footpath onto Reynolds Way.

The car wasn't found until Monday, September 18 in nearby Wyton.

Ellam managed to cause more than £2,000 worth-of-damage by ramming into the police car.

He eventually handed himself in at Thorpe Wood Police Station, in Peterborough, on September 29, as he was wanted for prison recall.

On March 27 at Cambridge Crown Court, Ellam, of HMP Five Wells, Wellingborough, was jailed for 16 months, having pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and criminal damage.

He was also disqualified from driving for four years and will have to take an extended re-test.

PC Chester Lewis said: "Ellam's actions were incredibly dangerous and also put a police car out of action which could have been responding to calls."
