Nearly half of young people in Huntingdonshire and Peterborough are “not so aware” of the possible impacts of climate change on where they live, a survey has found.
More than 350 young people took part in the survey which aimed to explore their hopes, aspirations and concerns for the future.
While 46 per cent said they were not so familiar of climate change implications at a local level, more than half (54 per cent) said they are “very aware” of its wider impact globally.
Other areas covered in the survey were local job opportunities, transport, housing, education and artificial intelligence.
On job opportunities, 41 per cent of respondents said it was either ‘difficult’ or ‘very difficult’ to find new job opportunities locally.
The group also said the main barrier to using public transport more frequently was “availability” (30 per cent).
Other reasons were that it is “expensive” (26 per cent) and 21 per cent said “anti-social behaviour”.
While 63 per cent of respondents said they had used artificial intelligence before, 34 per cent said they were “somewhat worried” about its potential impacts.

The survey was commissioned by Phoenix Sustainable Investments, a developer of sustainable energy projects and the findings will be discussed at a workshop on March 19.
Former Peterborough Youth MP, Eva Woods, will share further insights from the survey at the event, titled Youth, Innovation & The Economy held at The Bell Inn, Stilton, from 4pm to 7pm.
She will be joined by Al Kingsley, Chair of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority’s Business Board, and Dr Faraz Janan, a Senior Lecturer on AI and Computing at Anglia Ruskin University.
Eva said: “Young people are often branded as disinterested in or unprepared, but this data is a first step in looking beyond generalisations and highlighting youth-led solutions.
“The workshop is a chance to engage decision-makers in youth voice, answer their questions about young people and forge meaningful partnerships to maintain."
