A petition to improve the Little Paxton and Mill Lane bridges and road surfaces in St Neots had hit over 1,000 signatures - do you agree with it?
The petition, submitted to Cambridgeshire County Council, addresses the ongoing chaos caused in Little Paxton (and as a result, surrounding villages and towns) when the Great River Ouse floods.
Heavy rainfall often causes the Cambridgeshire river to flood, and the knock on effect in Little Paxton has left the lives of residents disrupted when the bridge and road close.
However, a petition set up by Mark Hawkins is calling on Cambridgeshire County Council to address the flooding issue.
Mark said: "Residents and businesses need this vital route open at all times.
"We would like the County Council to debate the possibility of improving the bridges and road."

Around 10 years ago there was another petition to make changes in Little Paxton, however no action was taken.
3,000 signatures are required to get the issue debated by Cambridgeshire County Council, and the numbers on Mark's petition are rising everyday.
Some suggestions for Cambridgeshire County Council have been included in the petition, including: "A cost/benefit analysis associated with improving the access (residents and businesses lose income, spend more on fuel, waste time, miss appointments and increase environmental pollution."
Other suggestions include:
" - Flood defences
- Raising of the roads either side of the bridges
- Limit or stop heavy goods vehicles using the route
- Build a stronger road to avoid future damage
- Guarantee flood warning signs are working at all times
- Place diversion signs in appropriate locations
- Ensure developers using the infrastructure contribute to the community"
The closing date for signatures on the petition is May 19, 2024.
