An RAF veteran who marked the first day of his 90th year by shooting at least 90 bullseyes in 90 minutes has raised almost £2,000 for charity.
Wg Cdr (Retd) Alan Robertson RAF, who is the oldest member of Soke Target Sports Club (Soke TSC), has nearly doubled his £1,000 fundraising target in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.
Terence Smith, of the club, said: "Soke TSC has two ranges on the former RAF Alconbury, now known as Alconbury Weald, just outside Huntingdon.
"The air and rimfire ranges are in former bomb stores and are both six lanes and up to 20-yards.
"The rimfire range was the venue for a unique challenge on Sunday January 14.
"This challenge was shot from a bench at 20-yards on the standard NSRA 20-yard benchrest target.
"It was supervised by a qualified NSRA RCO and scored by a qualified NSRA scorer. Several club members were in attendance to support Alan in this challenge.
"At 11.15am, the first shot went down the range and it scored an ‘X’ - a great start.
"That first ‘10 shot card’ scored 10 bulls and was followed by the next three cards also scoring 10 bulls each.
"A small hiccup, as the next two cards only scored 9 bulls each but by the middle of the tenth card, the tally was 90 bullseyes.
"This tenth card proved to be a lifetime best for Alan with a score of 100 and 7 ‘X’s.
"Only 45 minutes of the planned 90 minutes had elapsed, but Alan continued for the full 90 minutes for a total of 163 bullseyes on 17 cards, 51 of them ‘X’s."
Donations to Alan's fundraiser have come from family, friends in Probus, Soke TSC, the RAF Target Rifle Club (RAFTR) and his local Premier Breakfast Club.
Alan was delighted with the outcome but upset that he had missed the bull seven times!
