A man who crashed his car after drinking ‘a couple of rums’ has lost his licence.
Police were on patrol in St Neots at around 2.20am when they came across George Hamilton parked up with his hazards on in Barford Road.
The 25-year-old told police he had just got a flat tyre.
The officers noticed he had three flat tyres and an engine failure light displayed and spotted debris from the vehicle at a nearby traffic island.
Hamilton was asked to provide a breath test after an empty bottle of alcohol was found in the car and he revealed he’d drunk ‘a couple of rums’ at a party.
He blew 89ug at the roadside, more than twice the legal limit of 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath.
At Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on December 21, Hamilton, of Barford Road, St Neots, pleaded guilty to drink driving and was disqualified from driving for 17 months. He must also pay a £226 fine.
PC Younis Sefiani, who investigated, said: “There is no excuse for drink driving. It was lucky the vehicle was the only thing to be harmed that evening.”
