More than 400 people have signed a petition to save three Cambridgeshire fire stations from potential closure.

The campaign was set up less than 24 hours ago after this newspaper broke the news that Manea, Sutton and Kimbolton fire stations could shut by 2025. 

The plans would see 19 on-call firefighters relocated to Ely and St Neots stations, which are deemed “high risk” by the service.

While they are currently crewed five days a week by wholetime staff, the service says the aspiration is to make them seven-day crewed.

The current proposal will be discussed at a meeting of The Fire Authority on December 20 which members of the public are able to attend. 

A six-month period of in-person and online public engagement will follow.

Roly Rimmer, who is leading the campaign, said: “Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service proposes to close three fire stations within the county and we need your help to save them from closure. 

“With your support, together, we will do all that we can to prevent the closures, save jobs and keep the fire stations open to serve our local communities.
