A blackmailer who threatened to harm a man’s wife and children has been jailed.
Jason Farr, 38, called the victim from a number unknown to him at his home on the evening of June 13 last year accusing him of owing £1,100 for a motorbike.
Farr, who was not previously known to the victim, became abusive and threatened to rape his wife and harm his children if he didn’t pay.
Farr called again and left a voicemail repeating the threat.
The two had no further contact until about 9.30am on November 10 last year when the victim confronted Farr outside Sainsbury’s, in Trumpington, after recognising him from Facebook.
Farr was interviewed under caution as part of the investigation and then charged with blackmail.
On Tuesday (October 31), at Cambridge Crown Court, Farr, of Holbrook Road, Cambridge, was jailed for 16 months having pleaded guilty to blackmail.
A five-year restraining order was also applied at the sentencing.
DC Antonio Fernandez said: “Jason Farr made aggressive and disturbing threats so I am delighted he has faced justice.
“It should also act as a deterrent to anyone thinking of making these type of threats.”
