Vivienne Hitchin has announced that she will be standing as an Independent candidate to represent Eaton Ford at the St Neots Town Council Election on October 12.
Ms Hitchin, who says she is the only candidate standing "who actually lives in Eaton Ford", has concerns for future generations of people in the area.
She was in Duloe and attended Longsands College and her first job was as a sewing machinist at the former Kayser Bondor factory in Eynesbury.
"I then further studied for an office clerical and administration career. My working life has been spent almost entirely in that field and has enabled me to acquire a sound knowledge of financial matters and company administration.
"I have lived in my current home in Eaton Ford for the past eight years, never having lived more than 20 miles from St Neots. This is my home, the place I care about."
Ms Hitchin says if she is elected she will speak up on issues, "both large and small", which affect Eaton Ford.
"I am concerned about the weeds everywhere and totally against paying again for green waste collections.
"I want to understand what is happening, hear what the people of St Neots want and need, question future proposals, speak up for the community and help make the right decisions. I want to see how our money is spent and if it could be spent more wisely.
"I worry about the future for our children. We can’t turn the clocks back and have to move forward. I don’t know if it’s possible but I would like the chance to make a difference.
"Like many other residents I feel we are often ignored but, unlike others, I now have the time to become more involved and offer my time and experience to help and represent the common sense views of Eaton Ford residents."
The election takes place on October 12.
