HCR104fm is not only about providing great music and information to the community, it is also about supporting local charities and organisations, says station manager Bill Hensley.
Each month we nominate a local community group to be our ‘charity of the month’ and September’s charity is The Cromwell Museum which is the jewel in Huntingdon’s crown, with its amazing history.
It is former school where Oliver Cromwell began his education and hosts some splendid exhibitions.
Stuart Orme, the museum’s curator, came into the studio to tell our listeners some fascinating facts about the Cromwell years and inform us about the activities the museum runs.
Last month, our 'charity of the month' was the Hartford Hedgehog Rescue. The founder of the organisation, Suzanne Tibbets even named one of her rescue hedgehogs after the presenter who spoke to her, Martin West, and we are following little Martin’s progress and hope to be there at his release when he is strong enough to return to the wild.
Our October charity will be the Huntingdon MS Society and you can hear one of their trustees, Samantha Hollis, talk about the work they do in our area on Norman Knapper’s Over to You programme at 7pm on Wednesday, October 4.
The Over to You programme has many monthly features which are popular with our listeners; among them are The Sky Tonight where our presenter, Pete Singleton is joined two local astronomers, Jonathan Clough and Paul Fellows, and also the Cambridgeshire Police spot where Inspector Colin Norden chats to Paul Askew about local policing issues.
We look forward to welcoming Huntingdon’s deputy mayor, Cllr Karl Brockett and his wife Julie to our team as they will be presenting a new monthly programme about Huntingdon's history.
If you are involved with a club, society or charity in the local area and would like to come and talk on air about the work you do, we would love to hear from you. Contact us on Facebook or email: studio@hcrfm.co.uk.
