Over 80 residents are gearing up to sell their clutter for charity at The Hemingfords Yard Sale Trail, which takes place on Sunday September 24 between 10am and 4pm.
The pretty villages of Hemingford Grey and Hemingford Abbots have joined forces and residents are sorting out their lofts and cupboards in a bid to clear the clutter and raise some money for a good cause.
HemingfordHub is a community initiative run by local people that offers support and friendship for the elderly, parents who may be struggling, those with disabilities and anyone wanting company.
The funds raised will enable the hub to continue to hire the pavilion on Wednesday afternoons for HubClub's seated exercise classes and other events, hopefully for another year.
A map can be downloaded from www.facebook.com/thehemingfordsyardtrail which plots and lists the locations of all the stalls, and what they will be selling.
Residents are both gifting and selling items from their front gardens, drives or garages, with the aim of decluttering their homes whilst saving items from landfill.
“We already have both a Facebook gifting group and selling group within the villages and it seemed like a great idea to have a day when we all have a good clear-out,” says Catherine Turner of Hemingfords Yard Sale Trail.
“We‘re so excited to have so many residents getting involved at a time when we all have too many possessions and too much goes to landfill.
“Helping the environment, decluttering and raising money for charity all amounts to a successful and fun community day!
“Shoppers from all over the county are welcome to come to the village for a good rummage at the stalls.
“Why not also have a bite to eat the Hemingfords' two pubs: The Axe and Compass in Abbots, and The Cock in Grey. You can also visit the Gnawty Bites Cafe at The Grey House on Marsh Lane."
