Students and staff at Longsands Academy in St Neots are celebrating today (Thursday, August 24) after students received strong GCSE grades. 

This was the second year exams have taken place under normal conditions, despite schools across the country still dealing with the impact of the pandemic.

Despite this, results remained above pre-pandemic levels naturally and staff at Longsands Academy, part of Astrea Academy Trust, supported their students "non-stop" to prepare them for their exams.

Notable achievers:

  • Tara Bell achieved eight grade 9s and two grade 8s and is continuing to study at Longsands Academy.

  • Megan Cook achieved seven grade 9s, two grade 8s, and one grade 7, and is continuing to study at Longsands Academy.

Catherine Cusick, principal of Longsands Academy, said: "We congratulate all our students on their superb achievements today.

"Throughout their time at Longsands, they have embodied the values of tenacity, curiosity, and scholarship, which are at the heart of our school community.

"We have watched them grow and flourish as young people despite the challenges of the last couple of years.

"They have demonstrated maturity and resilience and, above all, worked hard – and that positive attitude and hard work has paid off.

"We are thrilled with the results and delighted that a large number of the year group will remain with us next year.

"The fact that so many will be joining us in the sixth form confirms that Longsands consistently delivers a high-quality education.

"We are very much looking forward to welcoming those students back in September and to beginning the next phase of their educational journey together, and we wish those who are continuing their journey elsewhere well for the future.
