A man was arrested in connection with interfering with a motor vehicle and theft after police received a tip-off about the sound of an angle grinder and men dressed in black.
When officers arrived in Yaxley at around 4am on Monday July 10, they spotted the vehicle they were near had a cut to the exhaust.
Police then traced the vehicle the men drove off in to a house in Peterborough and arrested one man on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle and interfering with a motor vehicle.
A 21-year-old man from Hampton Vale was thenn arrested at 4.54am.
He has been bailed to return to Peterborough police station on October 9.
Cambridgeshire Constabulary have since issued advice for how residents can stay vigilant.
"Is the vehicle jacked up? Can you hear the sound of metal being cut? Is there a vehicle nearby with the engine running and two or three people involved?
"If so, call 999 and share the vehicle number plate, make and model."
