The Rotary Club of St Ives, supported by Rotarians and friends from across Cambridgeshire, have raised more than £3,700 for charity with their latest county-wide pub quiz.

A total of 43 pubs and clubs entered, competing simultaneously on the night of March 30 for the coveted Top Team Trophy, which was donated by Peter Lane and Partners estate agents, along with bottles of wine for the top teams.

The Three Horseshoes at Wistow were once again the largest team with 64 quizzers, helping to contribute to the record-breaking total of 722 quizzers in all. Their prize money will go to The Malcolm Whales Foundation.

The top honours went jointly to newcomers The Anchor Inn in Wimblington and regular participants Floods Tavern in St Ives, supporting MIND and the St Ives Mayors’ Charity respectively.

The top 10 scoring teams averaged an impressive turnout of 26 people per team.

In third place was The Cock in Hemingford Grey, followed by The Swan Inn at Old Weston and Lakeside Lodge Golf Club in Pidley. Sixth was The Green Man in Leighton Bromswold and seventh The Three Horseshoes in Houghton.

Eight, ninth and tenth spots were taken by The White Swan in Conington, The Three Horseshoes in Graveley and The Saddle in Kimbolton.

All of the teams named above have won cash prizes for the charities of their choice; these include Hemingford Hub, Cancer Research UK, Dementia UK, Hunts Community Cancer, Blood Runners and the Addenbrookes Charitable Trust and Little Miracles.

All the money raised goes to charitable causes and more than £1,000 goes directly to the charities chosen by the winning teams, with the remaining amount going into the Rotary Club charity account to be available to donate as needed for local, national and international causes during the coming year.

The next quiz is on September 28. More details are available from Sandra King on: 07719336582 or via email: sking@stivesrotarycambs.org.uk.
