What will Oast House be used for?

I understand St Neots Town Council is considering buying the Oast House near the Priory Centre.

What I cannot find out, even from a councillor, is what it is going to be used for!

I have heard a suggestion it could become a gin distillery. I cannot believe it is being bought as a speculative venture.

The cost of buying it must be, what half or three quarters of a million pounds?

Plus, whatever it costs to renovate. While I, of course, understand the need for commercial confidentially with this project, surely we, the electorate, should be allowed to have some idea of what the council is planning?

I could I suggest a use for the Oast House. Something we really need in the town - an estate agents that sells coffee and offers hairdressing and nail treatments!

Report from the Huntingdonshire Philatelic Society

The meeting  of the Huntingdonshire Philatelic Society on January 24 was a members evening and the subject was the letters K,L and M.

The evening started off with gemstones on stamps from Bulgaria, Republic  of South Africa, Australia and South West Africa, along with information on how gemstones are formed.

Next came items related to KLM Dutch Airlines which is the oldest in the world. Covers sent on the 1934 Mac Robertson Air Race and the 1953 Christchurch Air Race return flight to Holland .

German machine labels, which were issued between 1981 and 1993, were followed in modern Australian, including postage dues and miniature sheets.

A selection of stamps from various countries showing mushrooms, along with ship's liners on postcards were followed by stamps from the Malaya Federation and the states.

The evening was brought to a close with postal history items and postcards of Kimbolton.

We were  shown many Victorian post marks before going on to mail from Leighton  Bromswold, Keystone, and the American Post Office from the air base at Molesworth.

These evenings are interesting and show the diversity of what our members choose to collect.

Our next meeting is on February 28 when we will be shown United Nations part II.

We also have our Stamp and Postcard Fair on February 18 at the St Ives Corn Exchange, from 10am-3pm. Free admission.
