Huntingdon's market square transformed into a Winter Wonderland over the weekend as the town welcomed back the Christmas Lights Switch-on and Christmas Market.
"Snow" filled the market square sky from November 25-27 for three days of festive fun, food, drink, gifts and a wealth of entertainment from local schools, dance groups and choirs.
Mayor of Huntingdon, Cllr David Landon Cole, said: “It was lovely to welcome so many people to Huntingdon for the Christmas market and to see the Christmas lights being switched on.
"The town and district councils, Huntingdon First, the traders, radio stations, and many more people besides - not least Jake Jarman! - put on a really good show that I hope everyone enjoyed.
"We have events on in town every weekend up until Christmas, and I hope everyone will come to enjoy those, too!”
Leading up to the switch-on, School choirs from Thongsley Fields Primary School, Stukeley Meadows Primary School and Cromwell Academy filled the stage.
The Ice Princesses from Emmabelle’s Princess Parties led the crowds in a Christmas singalong, complete with some Ukrainian singing, with performances from Generations Dance Academy, Michelle Gauci School of Dance, and the Collaboration Choir leading up to the big Christmas Lights Switch On.
Josh Lovatt from Star Radio then welcomed the Mayor of Huntingdon on stage, along with special guest gold medal-winning gymnast Jake Jarman, who led the countdown to switch on the Christmas lights and light up the town.
More than 25 different traders and seven community stalls were at the three-day event, which made it the busiest market ever and a great start to the festive season.
Philip Peacock, Town Clerk for Huntingdon Town Council, said: “Each year, this Town council-run event gets bigger and better, a wonderful start to the Christmas season for everyone to enjoy.”
Paul Sweeney, Town Manager for BID Huntingdon First, said: “What an incredible weekend we’ve had in Huntingdon, snow, singers and switch-ons!
"The festive market has seen great footfall in the town, with our local community coming together to support another superb event from Huntingdon Town Council.
"We’ve still four shopping weekends to go before Christmas, and now more than ever, we are urging everyone to #ThinklocalHuntingdon and #ShoplocalHuntingdon.”
