St Ives is kicking off this year's festivities and winter magic with its big Christmas Lights Switch-on and Christmas Market.

The public is invited to come together and witness the lights switch-on from 5pm in the market square and then enjoy the Christmas Market, which is also open on Sunday (November 20)

The St Ives Christmas Lights committee have organised the event with ILUX, an IT consultants firm, acting as the main sponsor.

The Mayor of St Ives, Cllr Philip Pope, and Father Christmas will switch on the lights, followed by a fireworks display courtesy of Cambridges Fireworks and Fireworks in Hemingford.

The Christmas Market will then open alongside the St Ives Town Councils farmers market, featuring a fun fair, Ferris wheel craft stalls perfect for Christmas shopping, live music, food, and drink.

Chairman of the lights committee, and chair of Huntingdonshire District Council, Cllr Michael Burke, said his main aim is to try to make the lights bigger and better to help bring the community together and support businesses.

Cllr Burke added: “It will help to bring people into the town that maybe haven’t been for a while or people who are visiting and create a really nice community feel."

A number of sponsors and local businesses have donated money for the event, and St Ives Town Council has provided a grant.

The lights committee want to match the grant and is asking for donations to ensure they can put on the best event possible.
