Staff at a Huntingdon care home are celebrating after it was rated ‘good’ by inspectors from the health regulator.
Ferrars Hall Care Home, in Ferrars Road, has capacity to look after 66 older people, including residents with dementia.
Inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) rated the service ‘good’ in all five areas assessed during the unannounced visit in September.
They found staff cared for residents with dignity and respect and that residents and their families found the management approachable.
“Interactions between people and staff showed that staff treated people with kindness,” the report published on October 19 said.
The inspectors also commented on the high quality of the food served.
They said: “Staff supported people to eat and drink sufficient amounts.
“Snacks were available in the shared dining rooms for people to help themselves at any time.
“People told us: ‘The food choices are good, and it's always served nice and hot'…"
Ferrars Hall Care Home is a purpose-built care home which operates over three floors.
It offers various facilities including shared lounges and dining areas, a hair salon, a cinema room, a coffee shop and a communal garden.
Activities, outings and events are also organised for residents.
This was the home’s first inspection since it was registered with the CQC as being with a new provider, Country Court Care Homes.
As well as assessing how the care home is being run, inspectors also spoke to staff, residents, relatives and a hairdresser who regularly visited.
“The inspection was also prompted in part due to concerns received about staffing levels,” the report said.
But inspectors later concluded: “There was enough staff to meet people’s care and support needs.”
It was also noted that a recruitment drive for carers and housekeepers was ongoing, and that three new staff members were due to start.
Those already working at the home knew how to deliver appropriate care, could manage medicines safely and recognised signs of poor care and harm.
They were also fully aware of the procedures in place if an accident or incident occurred, the report found.
The five specific areas awarded ‘good’ during the inspection were: safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership.
Country Court Care Homes operates 36 homes across the country.
