This week the Hunts Post spoke with Steve Greenall, Pico Technology facilities manager, to discuss some of the steps his company have installed within their workplace to protect the environment.
These initiatives will help to reduce energy consumption and production, and perhaps your businesses can even try some of these too:
Power bars
- Every desk in Pico has a power bar connected to the PC and desk equipment.
- They save long periods of standby for hundreds of screens, laptop docks and power supplies.
Motion sensors
- Several meeting rooms and cloakrooms now have motion sensor lighting control which ensures lights aren't left on, and energy is saved.
Plastic-free tape
- Pico switched to plastic-free tape, enabling all packaging to be fully recycled and compostable.
Recycling bins
- Pico has mixed recycling bins throughout the office areas.
Crimping machine
- This enables Pico to recycle cardboard packaging from suppliers and use it as an alternative to bubble wrap when sending goods to customers and distributors.
LED lights
- These replaced hundreds of fluorescent tubes that were once in place.
- LED lights offer a significant reduction in energy use.
EV chargers
- Pico has four EV chargers installed with plans to get more.
- Chargers are available for staff as electric vehicles become more popular.
